Not Believing That Jesus Could Save Their Dead Brother

Lazarus, who lived in Bethany, had fallen ill. His two sisters, Mary and Martha, sent a messenger to Jesus to tell him that their brother was ill. But Jesus stayed for two more days before He headed to Bethany. When Jesus arrived at Lazarus' home, he had already been dead for four days. Martha came to greet Jesus and said, “If You were here, my brother would not have died.”

Martha firmly believed that Jesus could heal her brother when he had been sick. But she didn't believe that He could save the dead. Not only could Jesus heal Lazarus when he was ill, but He could also save him when he's dead. Therefore, Jesus said, “ Thy brother shall rise again.” but Martha fell into sadness because she wasn't able to believe that Jesus could save her brother .

If You Unite Your Heart with Jesus'

Among all the problems we face, there is no problem Jesus cannot solve for us. There is only one condition and that is to unite our heart with Jesus' heart. When Martha was in deep sadness because of her brother's death, Jesus came to tell her, “ Thy brother shall rise again.” What might she have done if she believed in His Words?

“Really? My brother will live again? Oh, thank You, Jesus!”

She would have said that to Jesus and run home to tell other people about this.

"Don't cry anymore! Let's prepare food for my brother to eat and water for him to wash . My brother will live again!”

If she had accepted Jesus' Words, Lazarus would live again in Martha's heart as well. However, she believed in her own judgment rather than the Words of Jesus. She knew when her brother was ill that he could be healed, but when he died he wouldn't be able to live again, So in her heart, Lazarus was still dead.

Jesus had to bring the dead Lazarus in the hearts of Martha and Mary to life. To do so, Jesus continually said, “ Thy brother shall rise again,” “I am the resurrection, and the life : he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live.” But Martha and Mary still did not believe Jesus .

“Lazarus , Come Forth!"

Jesus went to the tomb of Lazarus and told the people to remove the stone from the entrance of the cave. That's when Martha said, “Lord, by this time he stinks because he has been dead for four days.”

When God created this earth, it was created through the Word of God. Everything was done according to God's will. However, because we have a different world of the heart from Jesus, when we listen to His Words, we don’t believe them and instead express our thought that is different from the Word. Jesus spoke to Martha again. “Said I not unto thee, that, if thou wouldest believe, thou shouldest see the glory of God?"

Martha could no longer say anything. She finally believed the Word and had the stone removed and the tomb opened. It was very simple for Jesus to bring Lazarus back to life. “ Lazarus, come forth!" was all it took to solve the problem.

"Rise, Take Up Thy Bed and Walk."

Jesus also said to the man with an infirmity for 38 years, "Rise, take up thy bed and walk. ” Until then, he had never imagined himself taking up his bed and walking. His legs were completely withered and had no strength at all. He tried standing up many times before but miserably failed every time, so he thought that it was impossible for him to ever get up. However, when Jesus said, “Rise, take up thy bed and walk," the Word entered in this man's heart. The ill man just accepted the Word as it was. It was an absurd thing for him to stand up or to walk, but he believed that Jesus' Words could heal him because they were greater than his conditions. Therefore, the man with an infirmity for 38 years did not look at his legs to make his decision, but he just stood up according to the Word of Jesus and he was able to walk.

There Is Only One Way for Jesus to Work

In John chapter 2, Mary told the servants, "Whatsoever He saith unto you, do it.” That is the attitude of the heart we should have to stand before Jesus. In our minds we have our preconceptions, our plans, our ways, and every time our thoughts stop and block out every Word Jesus says. We know there is nothing Jesus cannot solve, yet many people are blocking Jesus from working because of their thoughts.

As I read the Bible, I have found that there is only one way for Jesus to work. That is, whatever Jesus says, just accept the Word in our hearts and believe it. Then Jesus' heart and our hearts will become one. When we have the same heart with Jesus by faith, whether they didn't have enough wine, or the man had infirmities for 38 years, or Lazarus was dead, whatever great misery there might be, Jesus will solve all of those problems. God works inside of us when we go forth with the faith of believing in Jesus.
